The MB Girls Varsity Soccer team ended their regular season with a 4-1 win over Ponaganset on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. Sophomore Maya Mills (8 goals & 1 assist) scored the first goal fifteen minutes into the match, and the Quakers entered half-time with a 1-0 lead. Second half goals were scored by Senior Marybeth Fitzsimmons (6 goals & 8 assists) and senior Cate Greene netted two goals on the day (8 goals & 8 assists). Senior co-captain Morgan Plouffe (11 goals & 6 assists) had two assists in the match. Senior goalie Kelly Graziano notched 7 saves (73 saves total). Outstanding contributions in this game (and all season) have been made by varsity starters Janiya Ocampo ’23; Lilly Miller ’23; Maura O’Malley ’21; Zoe Ohl ’21; Sarah Gifford ’21; Emerson Rains ’20; and co-captain Meghan Themistocle ’20. The Quakers overcame a physically grueling stint of back-to-back games over the past two weeks by playing six games in eight days going 5-1. Over the course of this season, twenty of the team’s twenty-three field players have tallied at least one goal or one assist and seventeen players have scored. Perhaps most importantly, each game has been a total team effort. Posting an overall record of 11-3-2, the team has secured a bye in the first round of Division II Rhode Island Interscholastic League State play-offs. Stay tuned for home field advantage during the Quarter-finals, which will be played at Moses Brown School’s Wasserman Field on November 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. The Girls Varsity Soccer team is coached by Gara Field, Meg Fifer, and MB alumnae Catalina Mazo ’15.
