Eileen Sweeney is a native Rhode Islander who has been involved in swimming most of her life. Eileen's first introduction into the water was at her neighborhood beach taking swim lessons through the Red Cross. Swimming was a forgone conclusion as Eileen's four older siblings preceded her into the pool at the local YMCA's swim team. Eileen swam in the YMCA league for Barrington/Bayside for many years setting records in different age groups before joining Little Rhody Aquatics Club while in high school. A graduate of St. Mary's Academy Bay View, Eileen was All American in the Medley relay & 50 Yd Free events. She still owns, along with her (former) teammates the 200 Medley Relay record at Bay View - a record thirty years standing. Eileen went on to swim Division 1 at Boston University and then Providence College. While at Providence College and swimming within the Big East Conference, she received ALL Big East recognition for 100 yard Breaststroke as well as in Relays. Eileen continued to swim after college with Masters Programs in Chicago and Boston. Taking a break from organized swim teams, Eileen continued to swim for the pleasure of the sport. Six years ago, Eileen's former coach asked her to join him as Assistant Coach at Barrington High School. While there, the girls team won three consecutive State titles and the boys team placed 2nd at States for the same three years. Eileen arrived at Moses Brown in Fall of 2017 to a vibrant and talented swim team. She spent one year as Assistant Coach before taking over the reigns as Head Coach in the Fall of 2018. Last year, both the girls and boys varsity teams finished 6th & 7th respectively at States. Both teams were one of the top two Division II teams that finished in the top ten at States out of group of twenty-seven teams.
