The qualifying rounds for the state singles and doubles tournaments were played yesterday and the MB players had a great showing. Candice Ballarin, the #1 seed and defending state champion, got a bye in the first round and then made short work of her opponent, Piper O’Connell, the #3 player from Mt. St. Charles, in the second round, winning 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the next round on Friday, October 18th.Freshman Kylie Easton, seeded #10, also got a bye, and she also rolled in the second round, defeating Toll Gate’s #1 Sabrina Dengel 6-0, 6-3. And Vibha Kamath and Maddy Gerrish, the #2 seed in the doubles tournament, won their first round, an eight-game pro set against the #2 team from Cumberland, Taylor Lindsay and Lauren Gervais 8-2, and then beat the #1 team from Prout, Abby Smith and Maddy Laviolette, 6-3, 6-1.
