ophomore Candice B. captured the RIIL State Individual tennis championship in tough mach with the number one player from LaSalle. Winning 6-1, 6-2 in very difficult conditions, Candice won her first high school championship. The LaSalle tennis coach was so impressed with Candice's play, he wrote this to Moses Brown head coach, John Sargent:
I'd like to offer to you my congratulations on Candice's winning the state singles championship. She played a superb match v. Kennedy May on Sunday. Seemingly unaffected by the strong, blustery winds and cold temperatures, Candice played some well-crafted points, hit many well-placed, accurate shots, and was steady in her play and her demeanor throughout the match. In victory, she remained gracious and humble. The RIIL, the Moses Brown School community and you should be proud not only of the outcome of the match but of the sportsmanship which Candice displayed both during the match and after.
Congratulations, Candice!
